New to Vancouver, looking for a hunting mentor
« on: July 19, 2016, 11:15:07 AM »
Hi all!

I'm really glad I found this site. I just moved to the Vancouver area to work with the USFWS, and am looking for a potential hunting mentor. I grew up in northern Idaho where I took hunter's ed and hunted white-tail with my stepdad, but I don't know much about this area or how to harvest game on my own. I'm interested in purchasing a rifle (or shotgun), going to some ranges to improve my shot, and getting out to hunt -- waterfowl, rabbits, deer, elk, etc...Anything to put meat in my freezer. Anyone looking for a new hunting group member with an eagerness to learn?

Thanks for having me on the forum!

-Kari

Welcome to the forum!     Lots of good people here, and quite a few down in the Vancouver area, so someone from there will chime in shortly I'm sure.

Welcome to Vantucky, the Couve, PDX North, Kari. I'm a bow guy, so not really your thing. Plus, I'm gimped up this year and won't be hunting for the first time in almost 50 years. There are some other Vancouver guys who do hunt rifle and aren't walking like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Best of luck. Maybe we can have a beer sometime.

Welcome to the group. I am in Vancouver and also a bow guy as well but do go out with my shotgun every once and a while for grouse. If you ever need a hiking partner or any info feel free to msg me. Again welcome to one of the best sites ever.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone!  :) It's great to be here. @pianoman9701, I'm always up for a beer -- especially during football season!

Once I lose another 20 lbs, we'll have that beer. Northwest Liquid Gold is behind the Shell station on 4th Plain and 112th. Great place run by an ex-Army grunt and his wife. But it's closed on Sunday and Monday.
