Idaho is blessed with an abundant amount of National Forest and State land.  You can hunt for a long time and never worry about being on private ground.  You need to decide what tag you want to buy, what area, and then go from there to pick a location.

 This.  ID has a very good F&G site that shares harvest stats, population objectives, etc.  They also have a hunt planner feature that is pretty cool.  Best of luck to you mister!

You'll need to see what tags are available first. Idaho has quotas for how many OTC tags for each region. Some are already sold out and some never sell out, look at that first.

10a is not in the Lolo zone.  10a is Dworshak.  That is a good unit for whitetail and elk.  Lots of good bucks come out of there and the elk hunting has some good seasons but the B tag has a limited number of tags to buy.  I doubt they will sell out, but just so you know.

There might be a lolo creek drainage in 10a  :twocents:

There is actually, I thought he was thinking 10a was part of the Lolo Zone, which borders Dworshak.  Just wanted to make sure since he is a non resident.  Would suck to get the wrong tag.

My brother in law is in charge of over 17,000 acres of public hunting land above Priest Lake. It must be good due to the number of big bulls that he and the family has pulled out of there.

Check the website for stats on harvest reports and call the biologist in the area you choose. They are actually very helpful.

What does "In charge of 17,000 acres public land" mean exactly.  Just curious.

Would definitely look further south.  Take it from one who knows.  :twocents:

I have a moose tag in 12-2. Going opening week. Have seen elk in the area. Could help each other pack out. Good shot at some moose meat for you. I am not looking for a trophy just to harvest. Anybody who reads this PM if you are interested in hunting near lolo pass. Will exchange for help packing an animal out and/or location intel.
