Fat and happy

Found this guy living in the retention pond near my house the other day. He's got a little more going on than you can see in the picture with a 4th point on one side and bunch of junk off the back of his bases. Cool deer. The lady living next to the pond saw me walking the ditch in to get a picture and came out to make sure I wasn't bothering him, apparently he's been there for a while, "with his wife and baby."

Buck lives matter. Come fall, there'll be another fatherless fawn wandering the streets, getting into trouble, his mom wondering what he's up to at night. Now, my mouth is watering uncontrollably. Backstrap matters, too.

Woodlot buck. 

This could become a public land, high fenced hunt.  Epic.

Well being an equal opportunity hunter I say grab a bow and go after his wife. Up the buck doe ratio for a better hunt next year!

Its a tough one. There is a fairly well screened ditch up one side that I may be able to hide in. Cut a hole in the fence and encourage him out with some apples. He is a big bodied sucker, definitely over 200#. The neighbors house has about 20 apple trees on it so he's eating well. Based on the junk around his bases, and his overall body size, I'd say he's a 4.5 - 5.5 y.o deer, but I'll admit, I'm not good at judging age on deer.

I think you're right on target about the age.
