Broadheads are like bullets. Shot placement is everything. Alot of energy helps if the shot is less than optimal. Large, heavy bullets penetrate deeper, A heavier shaft and broadhead with more poundage will also penetrate deeper. But if you miss the vitals you're up shiit creek, no matter what the weapon.
