Savage 7mm-08
« on: February 05, 2009, 08:30:01 PM »
I have a Savage 7mm-08 and i was just wondering what everyone is shooting out of theirs. I am just sighting it in with core- lockt's because they stay together good and push a fair amount of velocity.

so let me know what ya'll shooting.

Corelokts grouped very well out of my Tikka, wouldn't shoot anything over a hundred pounds with them.
My Tikka likes Barnes TSX and 150gr partitions.
Would like to try a lighter bullet for general shooting.
Wish the 120gr TSX weren't so expensive.
Try Hornady light magnums if you don't reload.

What weight tsx did you try in your 30/06? I haven't tried any yet but want to try 130's and 150's. I've been shooting 140 grain out of my 270 and they are as accurate as just about any bullet, other than Nosler Ballistic Tips.

Try some 150's. You're handloading these right? I'm thinking you should be able to get them well over 3000 feet per second. The 130's would be fun too, they'd really be screaming. I'm not usually a big fan of light for caliber bullets, but I make an exception for the Barnes due to their usual weight retention of at least 90%.

From more experienced handloaders I've heard that you need to play around with seating depth to get the best accuracy out of the Barnes bullets.

Gutpile,  well when you get that done please post your results. I'd be very interested in knowing what kind of speed you get out of that little 130 tsx. What do you expect?

I dont know really. Think the book says 3300 or so. I'll tell you when i figure it out. It will be a while. I just got the chrony and have never used it. Sounds like published velocities are far from actual. I have no idea what to expect.

Im getting some accubonds! prolly 150 gr.? or 140gr.

I am also looking at a singleshot .223
with some primos bipods.
then get it all dipped in sage camo.
then a silver simmons 3-9x40 scope.
extra bullet holder on the stock and a camo sling made from 1" foam pad.
possibly a limbsaver too.
