Photos of people walking up on first kills
« on: July 21, 2016, 02:27:35 PM »
Anyone have any good ones? Here is one I took of my Dad a few years back when he killed his first elk. I hustled up the hill as fast as I could to get situated above for a good picture of him walking up on it. It was a somber moment. He had hunted elk for over a decade and saw tons of big bulls, but this was his first bull tag. There were a couple of tears shed, a lot of high fives, a lot of hugs. Then the work began. I just like this picture because I know the sheer awe that was his face as he walked up on it.

Great pic.  Show us a few more with him holding it up with a cheek to cheek smile.

Did he shoot it from that ridge behind him?

Did he shoot it from that ridge behind him?

He did. Its hard to see, but theres a stump in the last opening on the left, about halfway up the ridge. We were about walk out of that opening into the timber when we heard him bugle. Sat down and waited about 5 minutes and the whole herd started walking out. He stopped quartering towards us and Dad dropped the hammer at about 340 yards. Hit the sweet spot next to the brisket and dumped him. Not 5 minutes after the photo, the fog rolled in along with the monsoon, and never stopped. Was one of the greatest hunts I've been on.

I'll never forget my Dad's hand on my shoulder as we walked up to my first deer. He patted my shoulder gave a squeeze and said "Good Job son! Congratulations!" there were some proud hugs and maybe a tear of joy. I had hunted with him for 5 years and passed up on many does because I wanted my first deer to be a buck. I had missed a buck of a lifetime the year before. What a memory!

Thanks for the other pics.  Great hunt for sure and I am guessing he is mounted in the house?

I was going to do a euro for him but by the time I got back from filling my cow tag, he had skull capped it!   :yike:   I worked up this little barnwood plaque for him though.

Who else has good first walk up pics? I want to see them!
