I have the Alaskan guide and it is great but I think I would get the instinct if I were to replace the one I have. Mine sometimes puddles water on the very top and the instinct one added a pole to stop that.

The Alaskan is a good tent. . I will forwarn you now. All Cabelas tents have a one year warranty. . I just went thru a fiasco with them but thanks to twitter they made it right. .
If you buy the 8 man I have a floor protector I will sell half price.

There is an 8 man alaskan guide in the bargain cave in olympia, im almost positive it was 265. It said used on the tag but it was in the box. Seemed like a smoking deal to me, i know i paid alot more than that for mine.

I have an 8 and 4 man Alaskan guide models, I love them. The 8 man was my first ever Ebay purchase, was supposed to be a 6 man with aluminum poles. When it arrived it was an 8 man with fiberglass poles. Had I known then what I know now about Ebay it would have gone back but it has been a great tent for us for 10 years. I bought the 4 man a few years ago for me and the boy and I like it even more. Solid tents for being tents.

I was not impressed with the instinct tent I looked at, to me it didn't seem to be built as good as the others, and the stove location was odd.

I have the 8 man Alaskan and can't say anything bad about it. Camping for 3 days in pouring rain with a family of 4 stayed dry and toasty with a Mr. buddy heater.
Never leaked a drop, but as mentioned above it does pool some water on the very top. It can be set up with one person in about 10 minutes.

Instinct vote. They made some very good changes last year to boot. Two cots and still plenty of room for storage etc. It's a serious real 4 season. Can't say good enough things about it. Got about 30 days in it last year.

I have the six man and it's a fantastic tent. I run a Mr. Buddy heater and never been cold or had it leak.

I have the 8 man Alaskan. Got it last fall out of the bargain cave for $260 couldn't pass at that price. It wasn't a return it was the floor model, I like it a lot. Easy to set up alone was my solo set up ( I know taj mahal for solo)but was able to fit all gear, cot and totes inside, served great for early archery Elk when I was wanting to be mobile and able to tear down quickly and move camp if needed. Held up great in some heavy wind storms and thunder showers. Also have the Big Horn III with vestibule which is nice but I wish I would've went with the traditional wall tent or the alaknak on that purchase. Late season loaded with 3 is tight.
