Just spoke with WDFW this morning regarding unpurchased MS deer tags.  "Dave" did some research with his supervisors and called me back with this:

They plan to wait until the 1st of August to determine how many deer tags are available.  They will notify by phone, email, and/or website the date that the remaining tags will be made available OTC to those who didn't successfully draw the tag.  Last year it was Aug 10th.

They don't expect to have any unsold MS elk available.

"Hey man, open the door.  It's me, Dave."
"Dave?"
"Yeah, man, Dave.  Open the door."
"Dave's not here."

Others have also called WDFW, and received similar answers.  For deer, they might open it up to all comers, or another thought is they might give those who applied but were not drawn first crack.  Who knows?

I think WDFW is in error---there are always a few MS elk tags unsold at the end of July (80 or 90 last year).  There will certainly be a few leftover this year, too.

Our source for all of this is "Dave" at WDFW.  Lord help us all.

A friend just came by with a letter from wdfw stating that the deadline for him to purchase was on the 31st of july.in that letter not really a letter more like a card,It stated that "multi season permits may be available to anyone who applied for the drawings!"    Do you think it will be the same for elk?

Huh? Anyone who drew a deer or elk multi-season permit has until July 31 to purchase the permit.

You want to keep in mind that there is some sort of process they go through to sell you the MS tag in which they have to cancel the tag you got as part of your BG Combination License and this has to be done during business hours so don't wait until the 31st and then head down to Fat Meyer, Big-five or Walmart to pay up after dinner.  In ~ five years out of seven the 31st lands on a weekday, guess what day it lands on this year?

I don't recall the exact number, but there were about 180 leftover MS elk tags last year.

"Dave" told me the MS Elk tags last year were gone in 50 seconds.  Good luck!

I talked to the WDFW this morning and the guy said they covered the multi-season tags in a recent meeting and looking at the numbers of what is left this week that they're anticipating to have maybe a handful of elk permits this year, it any at all. There is about half the deer permits available and they don't have a date set but will figure it out next week and will E-Mail everyone who put in for them and will give everyone "ample time" to be able to buy them. So keep an eye on your Email and the WDFW website halfway through next week.

They need to do a second draw on the leftover elk tags in my opinion. Just to give everyone a decent chance at getting one  :twocents:

Second draw would improve my odds from none to slim.  I'm going to be out of state when it happens.  Anybody want to stand in for me on the MS elk?  Was told the sold out in 3 seconds last year.

Yes it sold out in seconds. Even if your cashier stood ready to hit that enter button they still may not have got it due to server lag or simply because there were more computers hitting enter key at once then there were tags available.
