Smith & Wesson model 17
As it turns out, this may be an opportunity-laden opener for me.Ruger is introducing the Mark IV, a full upgrade of the famous .22 pistol and they're sending one for a T&E for a magazine article. As I did with the Ruger American .22 rifle a few years ago, I may get to take the first game with this pistol. I'll certainly be writing about it.

So I can use my .380 pistol since it's open season for grouse, but isn't yet modern deer/elk season? I tried finding this in the books and couldn't find anything definitive.
pg 21 in the migratory and upland pamphlet
So you can use a .380 pistol as long as it isn't modern firearm deer or elk season? And I can use my .308 rifle to hunt grouse even if it is modern firearm season as long as I have a deer tag as well?
Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter 44 mag. I shot him in the neck with a 300 grain Hornady XTP pushed by 19 grains of H110.

I've thought about using my new-ish 460 S&W, think it'll kill em? J/K, actually I worked up some good shot loads for it for grouse, just for something different. This is at 7 yards, I think it'll do.
Grouse with handguns Up here in Stevens County , we don't allow grouse to carry handguns...Long guns only.
anyone using the 410 loads out of a pistol? just curious what your range is? looks fun and convenient to carry a pistol on the hip. just for a back-up!
This law makes perfect sense. It's obviously just in case a hunter mistakes a deer for a grouse, at least they will still have the right tags.
