Grouse with handguns?
« on: July 31, 2016, 05:47:41 AM »
Show us your photos of grouse taken with sidearms.
You'll notice this one has its neck cricked. That's where I hit the bugger at about 20-25 yards up on South Cle Elum ridge. (On a past Sept. 1 opener, for everyone's edification. )

This thread just gave me a reason to buy a 22 handgun

Have you ever taken a pic and posted it after season?

;) Never be sorry for asking a question. Only be sorry for asking "that" question.  :chuckle:

I've taken them with a variety of .22LR handguns, and with standard velocity round-nose lead .38 specials out of a Ruger Security Six.  Damage is comparable with either, I highly recommend owning a .22LR handgun to anyone, but if cash is tight and you have a .38/.357 - you don't need a .22 to hunt grouse.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Back when I was a rifle carryer I had a hip pack with 5 7x57 rounds that were loaded with lead bullets at approximately 900 fps.   Pencil poked grouse with very, very minimal meat damage.  Quiet also.   They shot below the crosshairs at 25 yards so I shot some targets to determine where to hold.

Done it with rifle's while out big game hunting but never with a handgun. Got two that would work well, High Standard HD Military with a 6" heavy barrel and a Smith mod 19 in 32 Long. These are my two favorite handguns. Grouse properly shot should be shot with a 28ga SxS over Setter's! lol
There's a reason I like dog's more than people

I've shot plenty with my Browning Buckmark but never thought to take a picture.  I guess it didn't happen then huh?   :chuckle:  (Pic or it didn't happen!)
