As cool as it is hunting up high in that ground, don't overlook the low elevation ground. There are lots of elk that never leave the bottom.  :twocents:

My legs are telling me that I should find some lower, flatter ground to hunt.

I'll be up there on Sunday, hunting bears.

I'm driving a White Silverado, if you see me flag me down and I can point you to some areas where you'll likely to find cows.

I'll be up near salmon la sac

Thanks Tony. Will do, I don't think I will be up there this weekend but if I see you, I will stop. Good luck bear hunting!

Hopefully I’ll be headed back for another try after work tomorrow and all day Weds.  Forecast is for lots of heat.  Should be interesting.

I was out there last Weds.  It was beastly hot, dry and dusty, strong winds that changed direction every couple of minutes.

I saw one cow but had to pass on the shot because she was near a campground.  Not a safe shot.  That was early am.  Spent the rest of the day getting a good sunburn and messing up my ankle.

Back up Sunday and the weather was cooler but checking the game cams showed the elk were still only moving at night.  They seem to be very happy in the thick cover around the high mountain meadows.  I spent the day hunting above 4500’ found lots of fresh sign but no animals.  Hard place to hunt, there could be a herd of elephants 25 yards away and you’d never see them.

Monday morning was downright cold, big weather change.  I spent a few hours in my tree stand down around 2500’ elevation.  My thought being the cooler weather would get them moving around.  I did get a cow and calf to walk by the stand but I passed.  Cows with calves are on my no shoot list.

So I still haven’t filled my tag.  Will be back at it when work and family commitments allow.

Thanks for the update. I have a lot of respect for guys who keep safety first and stick by their values when it comes to taking an animal. Guess that's why they call it huntin. Hope you get another opportunity.

Sounds a heck of a lot better than all the not hunting elk I have been doing. Good luck with the rest of the season, what day does the tag run out?

Good to see elk moving around in the daylight.  When were these taken?

There are cows in Teanaway! I have been putting miles on trying to find the cows. We have been seeing quite a few Bulls but no cows this last week. Heading back over to try and find one. Hopefully this cooler weather will get them moving. The Bulls were still together, thought by now they would have split up
