Scope for Savage Mark II FV SR
« on: August 25, 2016, 06:58:42 PM »
Hello everyone!
My first post here!
Just grab brand new Savage Mark II FV SR 22LR rifle
Looking for good scope now.

Didn't shoot for over 10 years.
Don't know what is available on the market now.

A friend of mine suggested me to check out Mueller brand.
My budget is 250$ max. Im more into plinking and 100+ yards shooting.
Also planning soot some rabbits.
here is what i found on internet.
Please share your thoughts? recommend me some brands, may be models of scopes.
not sure what should i do - grab APV scope for 130$ and have fun with it or spend more for APT
and get more light and non capped adjusters (knobs).
Or should i go with 8-32 magnification or it will be too much and i will no be able to shoot small game with it.
Should i choose one with side parallax adjustment or it doesn't make big difference.
Please let me know what you are thinking. thx.

Mueller APT 4.5-14 x 40mm 180$
Mueller APV 4.5-14 x 40mm 130$
Mueller  8-32 x 44mm          250$

Hawke Sport Optics Sport HD Riflescope 4-12x50  170$

Mueller 8-32 on my Savage 22LR, strictly a paper puncher, while clear to 32x it is very critical for eye position above 25x, needs to be in a rest/bench to use over 25x.  The only hunting it would see is GS off a bench.  Too much power and not enought FOV for small game hunting.

I played with an APV, while clear the cross hairs were too coarse for true target work .  It went on my nephews 22-250 for coyote hunting until he could afford a Elite 4200 2.5-10.

A Weaver V-16 with a target dot makes a great 22LR target/GS scope and a 3x9 with a fine centered duplex will work well for light target work and small game, again a good inexpensive  Rimfire scope is a Weaver  VR-9 pretty nice glass for the money.  I have the Weaver VR-7 2-7 on my 22H.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

Thank you so much for reply!
I took Mueller APV 4.5-14 x 40mm 130$
Will go cheap on this build. Good scope for the money they say.
It will allow me to be more universal with my savage.
May be later will get something for bench only.
