Go with the HS-T. The HS LR has 1/2 MOA clicks versus the industry standard 1/4 MOA. The HS LR has been my one gripe about Vortex. How they have a scope touted as 'Long Range' when it has less than standard precision adjustments is beyond me. I don't doubt the quality of the glass, but 1/2 MOA clicks if you're planning on using your turrets is ridiculous.
Vortex's turret adjustments are very firm. I don't know about the turrets on Leupold's scopes like their Mark 4's.
That might be their excuse, and that would make sense in theory, except for the fact that the HSLR doesn't have a larger travel range! Both the HSLR and HS-T have 75 MOA of travel in the elevation turret.I wouldn't sweat the exposed turrets, I actually prefer both to be exposed. Vortex's turret adjustments are very firm. I don't know about the turrets on Leupold's scopes like their Mark 4's, but their CDS turrets are ones that I would actually be worried about dialing by accident (brushing against your leg or side while packing it). If mistaken dialing is a concern, I'd go play with all the brands' turrets at Cabelas or similar and decide for yourself. For what it's worth, I've yet to have a Vortex product fail me on it's own. I did over tighten scope rings once, denting the scope tube (embarrassing I know). I shipped it in to them and had a brand new scope at my doorstep a week and a half later. I do run a number of Vortex products too, so it's not like I have the one scope that rarely see's action and claim they're durable. I run a Razor Gen II 4.5-27, Viper PST 6-24 FFP, and 4-16 HST for scopes, and Razor 10x50 and 12x50 binos. I'll likely be selling my Leupold Gold Ring 12-40 spotter and getting one of the new Razor spotters as well.
I thought I read somewhere that Vortex used 1/2 moa clicks was so you could dial faster than 1/4. I personally never had a problem with the 1/2 clicks from mine.
Alrighty well I finally decided I ended up just going for it and... Bought the 6-24x50 pst!!! God I love this scope so much. Got it on Friday sighted it in on Saturday and I'll tell you what 100 yards all touching and 200 within 1" of each other talk about having all the confidence in the world shooting now!!! Thanks to all who put in info and helped me out I really appreciate it!!
