I've used an adjustable grunt tube and a (calf/fawn) predator call for calling in does. Often in late October and extended buck season she'll have a buck following her. I use both calls the same. Set the adjustable grunt tube to fawn bleat mode. I try to make a crying sound with the calls. Perhaps something like what a baby goat or a pigmy goat would make. The does will come in very loud and fighting mad.
They're mechanical - gravity powered. I believe the law refers to using recordings made with a device like a Foxpro or similar unit.
I didn't know you could do that. Good tip!I have two of these calls, and both have an annoying rattle when I'm still hunting, or it gets turned slightly upside down in my pocket and squeaks at inopportune times. It's a love-hate relationship.
Here's another question for you guys, should I do a grunt call if a buck is walking past me and doesn't want to stop. Last year I saw a buck and didn't have enough time to shoot, I thought about doing the grunt call but I wasn't sure if it would scare him away. I've seen it done on the outdoor channel, do any of you use that method?
Here's what has worked for me since I began banging bones in 1985. I've modified a few things along the way, and will continue to do so as my knowledge of the creatures increases. Even though I've hunted blacktails since 1967, I still don't have them figured out!.........
I just whistle; like I'm calling the dog but softer. This is allows you to make the sound faster and keeps your hands free.
Any body tried this? I think I might try it this fall.http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Tinks-Hot-Shot-Blacktail-Estrous-Mist-Scent/productDetail/Scents/prod99999039710/cat100405
