Hunted Vail for a handful of years for deer. Never seen a bear in there or much sign. Did have a group of guys going crazy after spotting 1 smaller bear a few times in two consecutive days. And that's only the 2nd time I've heard of any guys seeing a bear in there. The other time a young kid killed a very nice bear.

Saturday we found some fresh scat and really nice tracks in a place where my daughter and I tracked a huge one in the snow last December. We plan putting some time in on him next weekend. All the sign that we found was in the timber and not near any of the higher open hillsides. We ran into a guy watching a paticular hillside with his black lab. I think that I have seen him on this site.

They run hounds out there in the spring to manage the bear population. Not sure how many they took this year, but last year the hound hunters took 43 bear out of Vail according to the security guy. I see a few out there every year including one small one yesterday morning. It was on a hillside about 1200 yards away, so I was happy to just watch it for a couple minutes before it wandered off.

were you up high or lower I usually hunt the left side when I go in but think I might try the other this evening I know they are in there just a matter of where.

While I haven't laid eyes on a bear yet I've been seeing sign. Its all really small though, so I wouldn't go in expecting to take a monster.

Nothing yet, been out every M-F since the opener.  Seeing sign but just no bear.  I have also heard that they take out bears in the spring because of the damage to the trees.  Just keep looking they will show themselves.
