Making unlivable rules that no one could live up to without having to sell their land to do so is not a colorful misfit as the article claims, and yes the Govt wants his land and the Hammonds land as well, so yes it is a land Grab.
That said the article did mention that old timers didn't fret when locals crossed their land to hunt fish what have ya. I'm sure others mentioned in the article who are being called colorful misfits would have done the same. The one being a butt is the Rich guy from the east that's the true issue.
Wanting the federal Govt to live within the bounds set by the original Constitution doesn't mean they're going to up and post no hunting no trespassing signs. It means the state take control and then leave them open to public access.
Kind of funny that a left leaning anti hunting anti gun Seattle times would post a pro community access thing over some rich guy being a butt, but then make claims about something else completely unrelated because the Colorful misfit wasn't about hampering public access.  :cmp1:
But lots of right wingers will chime in in defense of this article even though Seattle times is a left leaning article. 8)
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
