what would you do
« on: August 22, 2016, 02:20:39 PM »
you walk along an old road and startle an unseen upwind bear 10-15 yards ahead at the corner of a switchback. its hidden by brush just around the bend. It jumps and dashes only a couple steps further into the brush before completely stopping. You move over to the far side of the road and move forward, brush is still too thick, you can't see it. Bear slams the ground as you take another step and false charges but stops before leaving the brush and it still is not clear where it is. You back off 10 yards and proceed to evaluate and wait for the bear to move it turns into an hour long waiting game between the two of you. What do you do? Do you drop over the side of the trail and try to flank it still downwind and hopefully get a shot opportunity but risk provoking the unseen bear while being within less than 15 yards? Do you back off back down the trail and hoof it up to a higher elevation onto the next part of the trail and move down to the bear? Back off further down the road and hope it comes out? Give up and try the next day?

I drop my weapon, stand on a log and take off my shirt, cut my chest like the indian guy in Predator, wait with my knife...but that's just me.

Watch this, please.

To the OP, After reading a certain someones book on hunting bear... I'd back up 10-12 steps, and sit and listen for the bear to move. Might move in a direction you can catch it crossing somewhere, but it's more than likely it'll melt into the bushes and you'll never know.
