Going to Wyoming!

Haven't taken a day of work since last summer and I decided that needed to change.

Just made an impulse purchase and decided I'm going to Wyoming to hunt leftover tags in November. Just got a Region A general and what seems like an obscene number of doe tags for a Washintonian. Two unit 2 tags for deer (not expecting to have an easy time filling these because there is a private land only restriction, but I figured I should have them just in case) and a unit 2 and a unit 3 tag for antelope.

Really looking forward to it already. Would love to hear any advice people have on Region A. Plan on hunting the national forest primarily and using a landowner chip to poke around the BLM patches looking for antelope/deer at the same time. Left a voicemail with the wildlife bio to see if she has any info.

This will be my first out of state hunt so I really don't know what to expect, but if I see animals every day and put one deer (big or small) in the cooler, I will consider it a success. Would love to hear from anyone who has hunted Region A before.

We're going back for the second time this fall. We learned a lot last year and on our first trip we went 11 for 12 on deer and antelope, I passed up a doe antelope on the last day so we could have been 100%. We had 3 hunters last fall, this year it will be 7. We also got region A buck deer tags this year so it will be a great experiance.
Just an FYI, if you have the chip you will do fine, however unit 2 does not have much land to hung so stay south and west of there and you will do better!
We saw 100-150 antelope and deer per day.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm getting pretty fired up about it already. I'm probably going to be down there the first week. If I make any groundbreaking discoveries that may be of help to you guys, I'll let you know.

Just an fyi-don't over look a section of state ground just because it looks small on a map! Just one 640 acre piece can hold 100 antelope! So check them out and you may hit the jackpot. We hunted 2 different sections and killed 2 does on one and a buck and doe on the other! Both abutted county roads!

I don't think you can find many places in Wyoming where you won't see a deer or antelope all day without looking.  I don't know anything about the place you are headed, but you have the right idea.  Use the GPS and spend 1-2 days just driving the unit and noting where the animals are.  Most likely, you will find a couple of hot spots that you can focus on.  As mentioned, don't overlook small areas, I did well in two different units on a piece of ground that was a fraction of a section.

Also, check walk-in areas, if you have Onx, they will show up.  You can also look into the reservation system or landowner phone number list on the WY website.

The animals were in good shape this year, the goats we shot were crazy fat when I cut them up.  90+ % of antelope does had twins and the mule deer looked good too.  The hardest part of filling the doe tag was finding a lone doe without fawns.

We had no clue our first year but did some e-scouting and made all the same calls you are and did just fine.
