M&P 15 needs a decent low light home defense sight
« on: August 23, 2016, 02:56:05 PM »
I picked up a basic M&P 15 for a decent price. I am looking for opinions for a low light sight for home defense use? What would you use that does not break the bank, LOL.
What ammo goes well with a 1/9 twist, .556?
This will be used for a quick accessible defense bedroom rifle, not for hunting or target, for now anyways.

Aimpoint Pro.  Don't go too cheap.

55gr FMJBT is fine for 1:9 twist. May not the best for long term grouping, but per ballistics gelatin will snap the cannelure in both flesh and the walls of your home for a beautiful yaw through the bad guys flesh without causing you too many legal bills on the other side.  :)

Bushnell hollow sight, good but cheap and quick acquisition!! Or just go with open sights, that is the quickest most effective anyways!!

Great input everyone!
Thank you

I was looking at a SigSaur Romeo 4, red dot that was pretty sweet.
Then I stated second guessing a red dot for low light or night?
Anyone have any experience with these?

Hollow sights also seem to fit the function as well though, two many friggin options, lol.

Bean, have you shot the 55gr Hornady Taps?

Nothing wrong with irons and a trijicon front.

Oh, and if you do have to use it in house I'd use an A2 or BE Meyers Flashhider.

Fixed it.  :chuckle:

A suppressor is ideal, but....

I would be concerned about it coming up in court later. I think a prosecuting at tourney would have a field day with a suppressed  "assault" rifle sitting on the evidence table

Personally, for home defense, I'd put a flashlight on it.

That's what I did.

At home defense ranges, a flashlight in the dark is nice.....

I don't think so.

Right now I've got my first several mags loaded with 64gr Gold Dots by Speer. For an extra large contingent of domestic terrorists from Black Lives Matter I'll have to switch to my cheaper 55grain FMJs.  :rockin: :mgun2:

You seriously have a thread about an M&P15 with no pictures?  :nono: :ban:

Doesn't matter, plain Jane or not. Gun porn is protected by the 1st and 2nd Amendment! Nice.

This is a great idea even if I decide to put a holo sight on! Are Trijicon rears(that flip back to wide aperture any good? They seem to be substantially cheaper bought as a set?

Call me old school, I like to give myself every advantage possible if and when the time comes. Flashlights and lasers (with the exception of IR) "can" give the bad guy knowledge of my position.
