Did some shopping around last night, decided on two scopes. The diamondback 4-14x42 is the front runner. Second up is the diamondback 4-12x40 (I believe) but it doesn't have the side parralax adjustment, and I prefer that.

The Diamondback HPs have a side parallax adjustment.

I just set up this .243 Tikka for my son and went with the Leupold VX2 3-9x33 CDS Ultralight. I know you're stuck on Vortex but I think this is one of the best options for a youth rifle.

Combined with the Javelin bipod this setup is sweet!

My 243 wears a 4.5-14 vx3. I feel like it's a good scope range for a 243 for hunting purposes. It'll get me to 500 yards easily with the single rotation elevation knob (actually closer to 800 depending on conditions). If I need more I'll take out a different rifle.

Does it have parralax adj out on the objective?? Or does it not have it period?  I could understand preferring a scope w/o parallax adj, but cannot get my mind around preferring front as opposed to side adj.

I don't know anyone who would want one with the adjustment on the objective. The one I've settled on has it on the side, where it should be.

One last thing...... I will only buy Vortex products. So if you have any recommendations, please keep them to Vortex only. Thank you!

Why Vortex?  I've never used them - what makes them better than say Simmons?

To answer why, it's just a personal choice of mine. I have 2 red dots, 5 scopes, binos, and a range finder. All vortex. First and foremost, their glass is pretty damn clear, even for their lower base models. I'm yet to use their warranty but have called with questions and every time a person answers and their customer service is great. Their warranty is a NO BS one, no proof of purchase and they'll fix or replace every time.

I have used their warranty. My spotting scopes micro focus wheel was inoperable. I called them and two days later had a brand new scope sitting on my porch and return postage paid for the old one. Definitely worth it!

The 2.5-10x Vortex PST is a great option.  I have looked through a few of them and know a lot of guys that use them.  Very good scope for the money.

Cabelas has the 4-12x40 diamondback with the v-plex reticle for $150 right now.  Not a crazy deal but the cheapest I could find it by a few dollars and didnt have to have it shipped. Put one on my ruger American 30-06, with it a 4 power I can still easily find a target fast at close range and get a little extra magnification at longer range I really like it so far.
