I would be in favor of photos and comments only from the one posting photos.  The successful hunter could give a story and details, but I wouldn't have to scroll through an entire page for one photo.

Why can't there be a pictures only thread and also a normal chat/story thread you can post in both

Is there a way to filter a thread by pictures?  You'd still have one thread, but there would be an option that only shows pictures.

I just started a thread for all animal harvest photos in the VC.

Working on that right now.  Updates to follow.

Not that I'm aware of.

Pics only thread for all harvests, deer, elk, bear, birds and definitely feel free to post a new thread about your hunt and post in the standard individual 2016 deer/elk/bear threads.  Then all bases are covered but there will be a one stop photo album to view them all without all the distractions.

My thoughts are simply in regard to the deer 2016 thread.  Ideally, everyone would post one picture in that thread, and would start a separate thread with story and comments that way  we would get to hear the awesome story, offer congratulations, etc but then there would also be a thread that contained everyone's pics in a manner that would be easy to review.

Could just start a thread with the title: 2016 Deer harvest pics only  :dunno:

The poll choices are a little flawed IMO.  The last few kind of contradict or muddy the Waters of the first two.  I don't think the poll can accurately gauge what the original poster requested anyways...

A simple yes/no poll would suffice.

I hate rules.  What are we gaining by instituting a new rule outlawing friendly natured banter after a success photo?  I wish our state legislators would ask themselves if we really need a new rule (law) every time something doesn't work quite right.  "Nope, we need a new rule" they say.

This suggestion, while well-intentioned, seems to follow those same restrictive lines.  I believe it would limit the flow of information between hunters, which in my eyes, is not really a good trade for making a thread easy to view.

Many hunters only post a single pic and never write any story at all, or they just put in a one-liner.  We get just one chance to pat them on the back, or beg for a story, or get more information. I believe most readers work their way through the success thread as I do, one page at a time, never going backwards more than one page until perhaps post-season.  Without a back-and-forth between hunters, we 're just looking at a bunch of dead animals.

I say leave it alone the way it is/was.   It is just not that hard to hit the down arrow on the keyboard and skip the verbiage.  That task may or may not be as easy on a phone when viewing a thread, but you really should be paying attention to the road and not looking a pics while you're driving.  :chuckle:

A little discretion by members in quoting a particularly interesting photo would minimize the unnecessary repetition of the same photo, over and over (and over) again.  Perhaps that suggestion alone is enough to clean up the success thread enough to please the opposing side of the argument?

There are both kinds of topics now, one topic with discussion allowed and a topic for photos only, problem solved either way you look at it.
