Google Earth, Forest Service road overlay
« on: September 02, 2016, 09:14:26 AM »
So I downloaded from the USFS website a road overlay that shows seasonal road closures, and roads/trails open to vehicle traffic, etc... But there is no legend to go with it. There are white roads, black roads, blue roads. But I don't know what the colors mean. Anyone have any experience?

Which forest website did you download it from? Each forest have their own GIS folks and they generate those layers. You might call the supervisors office and see about speaking with the GIS person to clarify what each color means.

I got it figured out. Its for seasonal roads, motorized/non-motorized trails. Just took some map comparison to get it figured out.

 I had emailed the person, but hadn't gotten a response.

I was about to email them and then tolled down the page a little further and found their interactive map. By comparing roads on it to the google earth ones I was able to pretty quickly figure out what they meant.

Where can this overlay be found? I tried to Google it but my computer skills are a no go lol. Sounds like something I'd like to take a gander at.
