I was surprised to see how close my Dad was to getting to the top so I decided to wait for them to get to me.  When they did, I told them what I had done and that i couldn't see the rams.

So the next plan was to let them all rest and I would drop back down 100 yds and go north and around the next big rock on the spine and carefully circle around that and hope to see them. Which I did, but only 6 of them and I guessed they were 300 or 400 yds down the west side slope. It really bothered my that I could only see 6.  I had two worries 1) Not knowing where the 7 ram was could screw up our stalk on the 6 and 2) I felt that they're position was going to make it difficult for my dad to single out a Ram to shoot at.  I really needed  to find that 7th Ram. Plus I thought if he was off by himself he might be the biggest in the group.

I radio my brother to let him know the situation and let him know that I will work my way back to them and check every spot I can on the way back.  I get lucky and spot the 7th Ram.  He is up high and bedded facing south and not very far down the west side.  I'm jacked! He is in a kill able spot.  I can't tell how big he is, but he looks heavy from the back.

I work south to get a better look. While my dad, Steve, and Vinnie drop down and work north to me.    I crawl up behind another rock and he is still bedded facing north and less than 50 yds away.  I still can't tell how big he is. But figure my dad would be happy with him.

I scoot back out and wait for then to get to me.  I have a huge smile on my face and ask my dad if he is ready to kill his ram.  He is shooting a Weatherby 300 and it's zeroed at 200yds.  I tell him the ram is close and down hill so aim at the bottom 3rd of his chest.

Vinnie has the shooting sticks and I the range finder.  As we move into position I catch a flash of horn. I peak around the rock and he is looking right at us. As I duck back behind the rock I see him get up and take off down the hill. My heart sinks.

For some reason I through my binoculars down while I tell everyone we have to move fast.  We have been told they will do the Mulie thing (run off, but stop and look back)

As we move down the hill I spot a Ram of to the left. He looks small and I ask Vinnie to confirm which he does.  He is staring right at us but we keep moving down.

We then spot the group.  There are 5 rams bunched up and one ram a little to the left of the group.  Steve tells my dad that the ram separate from the group is an ok ram, but the one on the left edge of the group is better.  I range the group at 214 yds and tell my dad 200. Shot right at him.  My dad says the one on the edge isn't clear and he is going to take the one that is left of the group but separate.

He shoots. The ram collapses we all let out a yell.  He kicks and rolls down hill a little. We tell dad to reload and get back on him. But he doesn't move again.

I don't know how many emotion swings you can have in a day. But I had about as many as my 54 year old heart could take.  As we walk up on him I am just so happy for my dad.  To draw this tag at 78 and conquer a.mountain that he didn't think he could do, make a one shot kill at 214 yds, and get probably the only Ram he will ever get in his lifetime is just incredible.
