Skokomish pay to play?

I heard from buddy that the Skokomish is stacked with silvers but it is pay to play this year.  He said like $50 a day for a permit.  Is that true and has anybody fished it?

I haven't been there for 5 years now.  Just got sick of the wastage I saw and the numbers of fish that made it passed the nets wasn't worth the trip.

could be fishing the indian section, not the disputed area.

I guess. According to the state the reasoning for the closure is because the tribe stated that all of the recreational portion if the skokomish section for salmon was in the tribal land zone and they did not want us fishing it due to such reasoning.
So do they not want us fishing it or is it that they want to make more money?

oh, it'll be just like the weyco land, sensible people will say to hell with it but there'll be those who proclaim it to be the greatest thing ever to fork over the cash to the tribe to fish that river.

Problem is I can't confirm that it is true.  Seems odd to me that the WDFW would not have a season but you could pay for access and then fish.

Also seems really odd that there are that many fish.  I would think with it shut down to sport fishing the nets would be getting them all.

Figure it like the Quinaults or Makah.  They have rivers (and Q's have a bear season) where you can pay to fish and WDFW is out of the picture.  The fishing in those rivers is usually a lot better than you find on the shared rivers.

Do the Qs sell access permits to the rivers again? The did it years ago for like $10 a year. At some point they quit the permits and required guides. I thought now a permit was only available for the lake.

As far as I know, you need a guide, which is often just a guy that sits on the gravel bar drinking beer while you fish.

yeah, usually a guide but I think any member can take you or is that what changed?

Up until sometime early 90s they sold a "river" permit for 10$. It was only good for 1 river (you can probably guess which one). You only needed the permit and anyone could fish on that river within the rez (where the fish stack). At some point they got rid of that and started requiring a "guide" there, as on the rest of the rivers on the rez.
