Daughter's First Bear (and Big Game Animal)
« on: September 06, 2016, 12:40:50 PM »
There isn't a whole lot to the story.  We were planning on hunting for bear Saturday and Sunday.  Friday evening I diverted onto some logging roads on the way to my in-laws.  We were hoping to find some grouse and I wanted to see how the burn areas were healing up.  This guy was getting a drink in a spring.  We made a short sneak, and I set her up on some shooting sticks with my .338 Win Mag (her new .243 was going to be sighted in Saturday morning).  She dropped him with a good broadside shot at about 40 yards.  A couple of photos later and I loaded him up whole.  It was a 20 yard pack.  Young male around 130 pounds live weight.

I hunted some nice bears the next two days but couldn't connect.

I cooked a loin the next day and it was delicious.  I seasoned like a normal roast and made a sauce with fresh picked peaches, a little brown sugar, and red wine and tossed them in the crockpot for 5 hours.
Dreams are forever on the mind, realization in the hands.

Congrats, great start.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
