picking a "beary" area

hey guys, I'm curious if anyone could help shed light on how to pick a spot for getting a bear? I know the shoeleather express is the best way to find bear. but what do you guys look for when deciding an area? mountains, blowdowns, rivers, old burn areas?

Back in Mi, we either baited, or I tagged along with my friends who ran dog for them.  never spot and stalk type. so this is all new to me.  even the deer hunting aspect. of out here. thanks in advance guys ( and girls ) !!!!

so instead of looking for certain areas. I should brush up on my berry picking skills and what not

Bears are out eating just about round the clock right now.  Find a food source, find bear crap, find bears!

If you find the food, you will find the bears.  Trust me.

I am no expert, but my experience says that bears will scat almost anywhere they like (no manners).  This makes it easy to find scat piles on the road.  Slow drive the mountain roads, better yet on a bicycle or walk.  Any old scat won't work, it must be fresh.  At this time of year, look for shiny scat with berry seeds.  Once you have found fresh scat, find some place with a lot of scat.  There your bears will be.

food and nearby fresh scat.  So much food now it has been crazy.  I've been on patches of blue hucks this year that never even got touched. 
One bear a couple years ago was really into a thimbleberry patch.  He'd leave scat all around, some of it so fresh there was still berry juice soaking the ground.

They'll have to be pretty good friends. Most guys would be more willing to give out their girlfriend's phone number than the location of their berry patch.
