New hunter and new to the forum
« on: September 07, 2016, 01:06:42 PM »
Hey everyone, I'm new to hunting but before I lay down a blanket of questions I wanted to introduce myself.
Been in eastern Washington most of my life and always wanted to hunt but never had the time or guidance.  I figure now or never and I have two boys who will be old enough soon and I want to get a few years experience before I take them.  Long story longer, I'm glad to see how helpful everyone is and cant wait to get to know you all.
gonna finish the field course for Hunters ed in Oct and then spend this year out scouting and walking pub land and then go full on next year and use that time to educate myself and sneak gear into the house slowly so the wife doesn't catch on  :chuckle:.

 :hello: Welcome to the forum.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Starting with modern firearm white tail.  Probably on public land.  So far it looks like finding good public land that's not a huge distance from Spokane is gonna be the real trick.

Welcome.  Be patient, be willing to learn, and enjoy the process as much as the results.

Once you read the regs many, many times through, check out this site for some good information on where there is public access. http://apps.wdfw.wa.gov/gohunt/

Also utilize the harvest reports that just came out to find out which units would be best for highest percentage of harvest. Welcome to big game hunting by the way. You'll almost wish you hadn't gotten into hunting, you spend 10 months wishing it was October/November only for it to blow by before you can blink.  :)

Welcome to the site.

When you find idle time, go back to previous postings from the last few hunting seasons - Sept - Dec and read threads that sound interesting.  There is a ton of hunting information and tips for places you might want to consider hunting in some of those threads.  You can also use the search function to find specific topics that you might have questions or problems.

Good luck on your journey!

(Send your hunting gear shipments to your buddies house and sneak them in while the wife is out.  Have a good excuse ready for why you need each item, necessary or not.)

"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
