Recommendations and Pricing for Euro Mount on Mule Deer?
« on: September 25, 2016, 12:04:14 PM »
I killed my first buck last year and it's still sitting in my mother's chest freezer and she's none-too-happy about it.

I need to get it out of there.  It isn't a monster or anything, (see photo), so I was thinking I wouldn't do a full mount, and would opt for a euro mount.

I live in Seattle, and would be using a taxi somewhere in King or Snohomish Counties.  Just curious if anyone can recommend a good taxi for a euro mount and maybe also a ballpark on what I should expect to pay.

Thanks!

Not that difficult to do it yourself if you're willing to try.  Plenty of online instructions and videos.

Yes, there are a lot of videos out there but most advocate boiling which can and often damages the bone. Run a Craigs list ad for someone to deflesh your head with Dermestid beetles...the rest degreasing and whitening you can do yourself. Should only cost around $20 to $30 and you do not have to deal with the smell and process. I have no idea what people in that area  charging for a full euro but it shouldn't be all that expensive.

I just boil mine, it has a natural bone color rather then the fake white when guys bleach them, I prefer more of a natural look.  You loose a couple of nose bones but it doesn't take away from the mount at all.

Whatever you do, don't try to attach the lower jaw.  It looks stupid, as if the animal is smiling....

I've seen what goes into this process.

Not really interested in doing any of this myself.  I live in a 700 square foot apartment with my wife.  There won't be any boiling of skulls or raising of beetles etc. in that place.
