Mole Trapping & Mole Traps

About four years ago just before I sold my Business I went down and watched "The Mole Guy" case in court.
The Prosecutor asked him "How much did you make on an average year?"  He replied $500,000.00 and his best year he made $750,000.00.   

Yes Sir he made that much up in King and Snohominh County.  But remember he used scissor traps and knew that they were against the law.  He didn't care.  The Department caught him several times, at a matter of fact when they brought him to court they had him on four counts.  After two days of trail, he paid a fine of $16,000.00 and didn't do any jail time.  But the department have him on 23 more pending cases, so he promise to stop his business.  If they catch him one more time, it is straight to jail, don't pass go and don't collect $200.00 (Monopoly game).  He's retried in Hawaii now.

Anyway I came across a "Live/cage Mole Trap" the other day that looks like it might work.  I think I'll pick up a half dozen and field test them.  Cost for them seem high until you start to think like The Mole Guy did and make yourself $500,000.00 - $750,000.00 a year.  The #1 problem I can see is Initiative 713 where you would have to check you traps every 24 hours (live trapping).  That in itself could be costly.

So .............. if I try these traps out and they work good, would anybody be interested in mole traps?  Cost is right around $40.00 each.  Ya that sounds high (that is what I have to pay for them) but than again all one would need is a couple hundred or less of them.  A $10,000.00 investment or less to make $100,000.00 or more for your first year doesn't sound bad.

My thought is if they work good, I would talk the guy into a distributorship.  I don't want to do moles any more, my knees hurt and I need a knee replacement now but holding off for as long as I can, but you guys can do it, plus I'm semi retired.  Anybody interested in mole trapping and would you pay this price for such a trap?

I would be willing to give it a go. Ive tryed building live mole traps in the past with mixed results was not working the way I hoped. But if you think this is a good design Im always looking to expand into other things.

Have you tested these traps yet? If they work I am interested in a few of them. Moles are terrible right now in my area.

A good old Victor (Modified) is the best.  Works great.  I used to drive by a Sheriffs house every day with multiple traps and buckets in his yard.  Stupid law.

If I remember right they got busted on the news for using ilegal traps to keep there grass nice.

I have seen commercially available traps like that. although I think they were .22LR or .22 short

Set guns whether with a 12 gauge or a .22 are illegal as I understand but they do make ones that use blanks that I understand to be legal. http://molecat.com/

When I was in Business I use to have people call my office and ask if we would trap them alive and relocate them.  Yep "mice" ................. and rats!

We told them "NO" but some still wanted us to do it until we told them what we would charged 
and than for some reason they would always say: well I need to talk to my  "wife"  to see what she wants to do

Did anyone try out these new traps that catch them live?  Would be interested if they worked.

I find the shotgun pretty effective myself, but it takes a while to wait them out

  What a bunch of wusses. Vermin will always come back to some sort of building if relocated close enough. Heck I'd charge an extra $40 to drive far enough to drop off a mouse in the local woods.

Just like Wolfdog said I have been using these for a couple years now and they work great the best I have used also the moles will be very active in February and March is their breeding time.  Look them up online at   Trap line products

That's what I do. I actually tie them together and leave some string showing from above the hole. And fill it back in with dirt. Best thing about these is you don't have to dig a giant hole in the ground to fit a trap. They fit nicely right inside the tunnel.

I bought some and did not tie off with a good string..  Was hoping for a Vole, Think it got a mole that dragged it down the hole.  Figure I will find it when I till the garden next year. 

I also have use Cinch traps.  Same concept but the spring part of the trap is much bigger so they cannot drag it off. Cost a little more but I don't lose them.
