Reinventing the wheel
« on: September 12, 2016, 07:15:49 AM »
Some of you know I've had some success in 121 with bears. Last year the Carpenter Road fire obliterated my drainage. Everything is gone, it looks like a moonscape. I've seen up to 3 bears up in the chokecherry trees in the same little grove. I've actually been within 20 feet of bears on more than one occasion. I've actually heard the weird gutteral noise they make when they "talk". One spring season with MHWASh we counted over 25 sighting with pics to back it up. I mean this area was like heaven on earth to a bear hunter and I knew it well. I had cut firewood there since I was a kid. I didn't know however, that there were so many damn bears there until 2007 when it all came together. Now it's fuggin gone!!!

Not sure why exactly I'm posting this, I guess I'm just whining.  :cryriver: I went out Saturday to some of my old areas in 113 and barely even saw any sign. I have a couple of other tricks up my sleeve but I am just so bummed I can't stand it. In the meantime I'll live vicariously through your pics. Hopefully I'll get into another honeyhole and be able to share some success with all of you bear killers again.  :hello:

Not so sure I would give it up.
The bears in there went some where. Figure it out.

My favorite deer area burned last year. Couldn't bring myself to leave it.
Set up camp in the same spot only moved the tent to a uncharred patch.

Non of the regular camps were there. Just a few guys.
2nd day my buddy killed his biggest deer. That Thursday I killed my biggest deer and pushed a bear out while dragging.

Additionally this winter/early spring would be a perfect time to get back in there and do some habitat improvement.  Personally I'd throw out some grass seed, and replant some choke cherries.

Ill be back eventually. I think it'll be good in the spring but those were very old chokecherry trees so the fall hunting won't be the same. It wont be that good again for many years
