That bull is pretty unlikely to die from that arrow.  I suppose it could fester up and kill him, but I think it will probably live

unless it is some chemical to react with blood?

Could be I guess. I've never seen a reagent or luminol in a aerosol before though.

 New product? :dunno:

Where is your property mud? We don't live to far from each other, I own the south end 5 acres on little goose lake!
Not familiar with Goose Lake, but I border the clear cut off 288th.

unless it is some chemical to react with blood?

Just spray paint.  They marked the trailhead and what I assume what they thought was a single blood drop.

I live out there to and know every kid just about out there if not my little brother does, if you need any help looking for the elk let me know my 5 year old is a tracking master

I never saw any blood trail, but if I did, it's 4 days old now.  These pics are ~1hr into opening day.  Also, this camera is on my property line facing out.  There's several neighbors he'd be tromping through.

Can't prove it, but might be the last pic before he got stuck with an arrow?   :dunno:

Looks like you nailed it on the spray paint call phool.

I don't think I would be taking any of this as well as you are mud.

I feel for you, I live in the heart of all the sneaky trespassers and it is a constant battle. All the local boys know of these elk. And they are all on private land

That bull didn't look like he was going down soon.

Shot does look to be above the shoulder and not in any vitals, I bet he lives.

Did you follow the spray paint markings out to where they started?
Is that the new way to mark the blood trail?  Interesting.

Some graffiti is interesting. Still graffiti. Still illegal.

My thoughts as well. If he does not die from infection I bet he will live.

if I had a few days I would be more than happy to stake out your property for their return, and catch them in the act.  Do you have your property posted with signs? did you show the other property owners around you the photos? Maybe they know who the criminals are.
That's my one shot.

I appreciate everyone's concern.  One of the folks on the camera came to me on Tuesday.  All is well now that there's an open line of communication and perspective.  As was my original intent, not to publicly embarrass anyone.  Hopefully this serves as a public service reminding others to be neighborly.  It can go a long way!  Thankfully, he's a guy with good intentions and this didn't get blown out of proportion!   :)

To be clear, my cameras have been up the better part of 2 years and these folks were never on them before this incident.  Extenuating circumstances and some assumptions on my part were the root of the entire ordeal.

Thanks again to everyone!
