Cheap action cams
« on: September 14, 2016, 10:49:23 AM »
Looking at picking up a action cam this winter, don't want to pay go pro pricing for a toy, just want something to film around camp, and when were fishing, etc.

does anyone have a recommendation for a go pro like camera, that doesn't break the bank? I was looking at some cheaper ones on amazon that had decent reviews, but I trust the board, more then I trust amazon reviews at this point lol.

wife got me a first gen gopro a few years back (the original hero, not black/silver etc) it works pretty good, used it on our honeymoon when we did a shark cage dive, the depth of the shot isnt that great but at the same time, they really weren't "designed" for long viewing/recording distances either. I've seen some of the gopro knock offs on amazon for like $99 for a kit with lots of goodies, but dont use mine much now so no need for a second one. mine for its age/what it was designed for its pretty good, sound is decent and battery lasts pretty good, but havent played with the more recent ones... :twocents:

look for these on ebay or buy direct from the website. you will find them at times on ebay cheaper from the same guy.  I have had a 7 and 8 . the 8 is mounted on my boat for the last year and still works awesome,  I think I paid around 45 or 50 dollars for the camera and a ton of acc. that came with it.

Those cams look just right price wise Fwilliams. Thanks for the link!

I looked at geek, but it's been so hit or miss quality wise when I order I was pretty hesitant lol, my wife hates it, stuff randomly shows up I "had" to have, then forgot about!
