Oregon Blacktail
« on: February 09, 2009, 08:08:30 PM »
I'm opting for Oregon westside archery over Montana this year, anyone have any experience on the wet side of Oregon? I have a few ideas, but nothing concrete yet.

I've killed a couple deer on the Oregon Coast.  Down around Riddle, OR up along Cow Creek.  Good bit of Private timber land and BLM land to hunt their.

I hunted near the town of Alsea for years and had a great time .Didn't see many huge bucks ( I was also young & dumb ) but saw tons of deer a day. Took a nice 3x3 the last year I hunted there. Not much pressure & the deer are not skittish at all. They feed & travel all day with no regard. Have fun & let us know. Mike

Thanks, I am leaning towards the N coast area, likely Scappoose, no further south than the Alsea. Could possibly hit the Santiam, or Willamette as well.

I know this thread is about deer, but me and my friends are thinking about archery elk hunting the north coast of oregon next season.  Have you guys who have deer hunted some of the mentioned areas seen much for elk?

The elk herd would move into the area I was hunting & live there until all the browse was gone, then move on. Elk everywhere for a week & then you couldn't find one to save your life. They left sign like they lived there for ever. Taught me not to always hunt where the sign is but hunt until I find the elk. I would also like to hunt down there for deer or elk, if someone needs more for the trip I'm available. Also have a camper, all gear. I'd like to hunt oregon again. Mike

Well that sounds good, thanks for the info guys.  I didnt plan on getting a deer tag because i dont know if it is worth the out of state fee, haha.  The blacktail hunting is so poor where we come from i have a hard time justifying spending alot of money to hunt them, but it sounds like there are alot better opportunities down that way.  It would be my luck i would have no tag and have a chance to shoot a nice buck!
