General advice for archery elk hunters....with sarcasm
« on: September 19, 2016, 08:03:44 PM »
I was elk hunting last week and made some observations, from which I have formed this advice which I am sure you will find, if nothing else, humorous.

1: If you are bow hunting elk, driving down the road with a cow call out your window calling does you little good. You should do what the person behind you was doing, drive, park, bugle and repeat.

2: if a hunter finds your blood trail, which you had lost and offers to help you find it, don't take it. That way, you can lose the animal and keep hunting.

3: chasing elk at full speed only helps to calm them down.

4: burn bans means it's OK to have fires as long as there are people around the camp fire and booze is kept to a maximum. Don't worry about the other hunters lives or property.
5: a poorly shot animal, or one that has been hit and goes into thick or steep areas are no longer a concern. Don't bother tracking, you need to go back to build a fire at camp anyway.

6: side by sides and white diesel trucks have the right away on closed roads ( no green dot).  If your walking down said road please step aside.
7: walking and blowing your cow call with every step not only keeps a good cadence but is a timeless proven method of finding and not educating elk.

8: Additionally, butt shots are obvious kill shots, there are no reasons to wait for a broadside shot. If it doesn't die, it is a good way to mark your elk so others may not take it.

This has been a public service announcement from your local soulless ginger.

Ive seen a couple of these the last week. My favorite was a passenger in a diesel truck at full draw hanging out the window while rolling down the road. Dont know what their intentions were but I doubt it worked out.
The easiest day was yesterday

Wow, it's amazing what you don't see when you are off the road a ways. What a goat rope.

Your post is funny as hell by the way!

I've seen 1-6 since the 10th.

#4 last friday night two different times on DNR land. Called the dispatch and waited just up the road until one of the employees came. The camp didn't know that I called them in.

#6 I saw when a truck was trying to open up some barricades. Stopped him in his tracks.

I saw a gal doing this up in the Nile on opening weekend, with another gal driving. It really made me laugh but also got me thinking...she must have strong legs to hold on like that. Maybe I will have to give her a call when the season is over  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
When seconds count, the police are only minutes away...
