Good early hunt
« on: September 21, 2016, 08:01:30 PM »
On opening day which was my dads birthday I got my first archery elk. I knew where the elk were and I went there at first light. I parked in the timber and walked out to the cut. Not 2 minutes later of listening I heard the bull bugle. They were in the jacks on the other hill. When it was light enough I hiked down to the bottom and back out but they moved up the drainage so I followed their tracks. I heard them above me and I waited for them. Well there was a guy above me and he shot the bull 100 yards above me but he pushed the cows to me. If the cows would of went left they would of ran me over but I ended up getting a 20 yard shot on the run. I spinal tapped her and quickly put another one in her. Luckily the guy who shot the bull helped me get my cow out. She weighed 295 meat and bone

Me and my buddy went up to Capitol forest we were driving down the main line and in the cut we saw a good spike. I got out shot him at 52 yards double lunged him. He shot across the road and didn't go far.

My dad and his buddy's were on a bull and one of them heard a snap behind them. He turned around and it was a bear. Ended up shooting the bear at 14.5 yards

Me and my dad walked down a road into a clearcut and cow called. Right after we had a cow respond. She came running from the timber into the cut looking into the jacks on the side of the cut we were in. We cow called again and she came running to us. My dad had a 30 yard shot.

My dads other buddy shot a cow that was as big if not a little bigger than mine. I won't post the picture cause I don't have permission from him. They were driving through timber and there they were 50 yards off the road and he hoped out and shot.

Sounds like you need another hunting partner, since you know where all the deer & elk are  :chuckle:

Congrats to y'all.
