Elk Camp 2016 start up report
« on: September 23, 2016, 10:47:21 AM »
Thanks to all those who have offered information to me in deciding where to start my muzzleloader hunt in the Bumping GMU. We will be camping off of FS 480 south of Indian Creek. From there we are going to concentrate on the Upper Sand Ridge area and to the NE of Spiral Butte and on Russel Ridge and over to Shellrock peak. That will give us plenty of room to work with. planning to set up a spike camp for 2 days at a time anywhere I see sign; don't want to hike back to camp every night if I am on elk. Getting real excited and happy to see that the long term forecast is calling for a chance of rain/snow and cooler temps....it's a long term forecast however-so we will see. I have been chasing elk on my hands and knees on the west side for 4 years during archery and modern. Hopefully a change in location will be the charm. Whatever happens it is a beautiful place! I plan to keep this thread going with whatever info I can provide in hopes of giving a little. Heading to the range in a few to brush up and learn how to use my Rino 650, waaay more complicated than anything I have used before, my partner has a 750 and want to make sure we know how to communicate. I think we are ready, just need next Thursday to get here!
