Looking for suggestions for a new rest.
« on: September 23, 2016, 02:05:10 PM »
Howdy all,

Have not bow hunted since the late 1980's so a little behind the curve  :chuckle:

Anyway, picked up an older model bow to play around with, nothing fancy or overly high tech, it was set up for release shooting, which I always used fingers before.

Thinking I would like to try release shooting, so will need a rest compatible with that style.

Currently it has an older Whisker Bisquit rest. I say older, because looking at them on-line, they have a partial circle holding the whiskers so an arrow can be "tipped-in" from the side.

The one on my bow is a complete, solid circle housing, requiring the arrow be fed in from the back.

What is good, reliable, rest to switch to for release shooting?

Thanks  :hello:

The one you have will likely work fine. If your just looking to spend money that's easy to do also.
I'm not sure.

Well yes, that is correct, but it is more of a case of I do not like the awkward, extra motion required with lining up and sliding the arrow into the rest then attaching to the string vs the open style like was on my other bows.

Like I said, it has been a very long time since I have been in the archery world, and I have zero experience with release shooting, so looking for some ideas on getting a decent rest, matched to release shooting.

I like the rip cord fall away rest myself. Whisker baskets are OK just know that groups will suffer with older more worn out ones.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Truglo downdraft is half as much as a QAD or trophy taker and works like a champ. Fast, quiet, easy to tune and accurate.  :twocents:

Im running a ripcord on my bear anarchy and trophytaker smackdown pro on my bear motive 7 with the arrow retainment removed. Didnt want to risk fletching contact with my 4 fletch. Both perform flawlessly.

:yeah: We can debate broadlead and sights, but the QAD Ultra HD rest and the Tight Spot quiver rule the roost. :twocents:

Thanks for all ideas and info everyone!!

Seems like the current trend is solidly planted in the fall-away style these days. Is that because of release style shooting?

I take it the plunger and flip style rest are outdated or just not suitable for shooting with a release?

It seems like all those examples are still a case of pushing the arrow in from the back or am I missing something?

@Smossy how easy was it to remove the retainment part(s)?

Thanks again all!!!

At first it seemed like it was going to be a major pain in the A until I located what actually needed to be removed I think it was just one screw.
