2016 quality archery bull
« on: September 24, 2016, 04:32:54 PM »
13 day hunt and of course I had to kill it on the last day. After losing my range finder chasing bulls on opening day I guessed on two ranges and shot over two bulls within 10 minutes. I borrowed another range finder and figured I would get another shot in a few days. 13 days and 200 miles of hard hiking later I got my shot. It was 10:00 in the morning walking out to the truck contemplating on staying for the evening hunt. We rip one last bugle into the drainage we have to walk down to get to the truck and get a response instantly. We crash in on him like we are another bull bugling down the hill. We get to a spot where I can shoot if he comes out of the trees, but I had been in this situation 10 times on the hunt with no result. We see tines coming through and I range the gap, 32 yds. He starts moving to the gap and as I raise my bow to draw my arrow hits a limb and falls to the ground..... rookie. My dad rips a bugle at him in the open at 30 yds and he starts to move again, I have a new arrow in, I draw he stops perfect in the gap and I smoked him, he ran 60yds. Scores 305, and weighed 418 boned out.

thanks to Benhuntin, Greenheadkiller, and Coach for the help

Congratulations on a hard earned trophy. Elk hunting seems to have the highest highs and the lowest lows, and you won't get to experience that ultimate high without plenty of lows. Nice work.

Congrats man!  You guys hunted your tails off!
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

Lucky for you that your father was there, this distracted the bull towards the caller, allowing the shot.  Great timing!!  Congratulations.
