I've got an old Marlin lever action that shoots great as long as I don't try to feed it Stingers, my favorite .22 is my S&W Model 41.

If your going to spend around $400, I would buy a 10/22, then buy a Ruger MKII/III, or a 22/45. I enjoy shooting a .22 auto pistol just about more than anything else.

I love my 10-22 (well really my dads but i have had it in my possesion for the last 20 yrs ;) and the only time I've had any jams is when using the plastic banana clips. I finally got old enough that the factory 10 rnd mags looked cool enough, went back to using them and have not had any more problems. I will say mine is ok accurate, but not a tack driver. I would recommend it.

I really like my Remington 572 fieldmaster delux. I saved up my wood cutting money one fall and bought it back in the late 80's. Killed a lot of small game with that rifle.

my mod 60 Marlin shot a nice group (even though they dropped 4") at 100 yards today.
(Turk mauser did larger holes - open sights)
A better scope would have made more accurate shots by seeing the target better.

I don't have this anymore but it was the most accurate .22 handgun I have ever used:

I find it hard to believe that as many of you are having troubles with the 10/22 jamming as you are. . .these things are notorious for being accurate and reliable. . .as I said I've had mine for almost 20 years and the only time I ever had any jams was when I tried subsonic ammo or the birdshot ammo. . .

. . .I never personally had any problems with Stingers in mine, but I have heard of feeding issues with the Stingers which wouldn't surprise me because the cases on Stingers are longer. . .I would have to wonder why those of you that are having feeding problems are having them. . .

. . .occasionally when I let my GF use my 10/22 she has a problem loading the first round with a fresh clip but that's because she's too gentle with the bolt. . .

My 10/22 isn't ejecting the spent shells properly, causing it to jam. I've been shooting Federal. I've been meaning to try out some different brands of ammo to see if that helps.

My 10/22 digests anything including sub-sonics, except for squib rounds (about 5% of the Wally world Fed bulk box).  It didn’t always, took a 2 brick break-in and the right amount of oil on the bolt, one drop smeared between the fingers then on the bolt.  More than that and it gums up.

When I was younger, my 10/22 also digested many, many boxes of the 500 round Federal bulk boxes from Wal-Mart without a single jam ever. . .
