Ok all you camera pro's out there!  Best point and shoot camera out there for a reasonable price?

What are you using it for?  Do you want a super zoom or just a simple point and shoot.  I love my Nikon coolpix p520.  It is a bit big if you are looking for a small compact for the bottom of your pack though.

something simple to operate that will fit in my waist belt pouch on my pack that will take quality stills of dead things and camp life.  Cell pics end up sucking and my wife's big Sony never gets yanked from the depths of my pack for pics because it's a PITA!

The latest Olympus Tough TG,  great photos above and below the water.  Shockproof to 7', waterproof to 50', takes good video also. Have had 3 over the last 10 yrs because of other issues than performance, (ran over one with a golfcart, sunk one in a lake because the floaty strap wasn't quite enough) Will get another if the one I have fails, tg-810.

I have owned several Canon Power Shot ELPH cameras, the one I have now has been dropped several times and still works fine. They seem to be easy to figure out and the least expensive is around $120, they go up to about $250 if you want a bunch of bells and whistles. Just about all the stores have them, try BiMart, Walmart or Fred Meyers.

I have this little guy.  I have been very happy with the results.  Nothing fancy, but great to throw in the pack and give to the kids so they don't break any of the nicer equipment.

Your cell trophy kill photos, and most every outdoor touristy photo on Facebook, from your iphone suck because you don't have enough flash. Its counter intuitive, but one of the secrets to making images that stand out: the brighter the ambient daylight is, the MORE flash power you need to properly expose a subject. Getting a pocket camera wont fix this over your iphone. If you want good trophy shot pics and are willing to carry some thing in the truck in addition to your camera phone, get a  used 10 year old DSLR for $75 and a cheap off brand speedlight for $50. Lighting is E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G in photography. More than resolution, more than sensor size (full frame vs crop), etc. Set the camera to base ISO (usually ISO 100), go up to your max flash sync speed (usually 1/160-1/200), and set around f/8-f/11. Chimp your flash exposure in, salt and pepper to taste.

What about a blue tooth flash device for your phone ?? I think I seen something along those lines on amazon awhile back

Post up a link and I'll take a look at it.

You can get creative. The viewers eyes of a photograph want to wander to the brighter, more saturated, more contrasty parts of an image. This is why automatic settings usually get it wrong. The camera meter sees plenty of light and doesn't realize that the faces are what need to be the brightest. Its the photographers job to kill as much ambient light as possible and illuminate the subject. So do whatever it takes... Is your truck white or silver? How about dragging the deer next to it and using the reflected sunlight off the truck as a source of illumination? Perhaps using the headlights of the car, with a white sheet or tee shirt placed between the headlight and the hunter to diffuse the light a little bit. Or use your windshield shade thingy as a reflector. Its all about making the light on your subject brighter than the scenery of the background.

This is intereating.  I've been digging around and most things I read are saying even a simple point and shoot is gonna give you better printed pictures than a cell phone.  I've been very unhappy with the quality of printed pics I get off my cell phone.  I'm a backpack hunter so the dslr is a no go :chuckle:
