Yeah, I read that as well.  Sounds like the best option is finding Greek surplus Garand ammo.

Yes

We used the American Eagle Garand ammunition for the Bull Hill Shootout and had no ammo related issues.

If you reload Win 748,either of the 4895's and 4064 work great. Watch the OAL as the internal box is shorter than the throat will allow.
I have that en bloc proudly displayed in my office so cool.

Sweet! I'm glad you got one. Now you will need a 2017.

CMP is one place to buy ammo,  however there a hoops you have go through.  The American Eagle is good.  Also stay within 147 to 168 grains on bullet weight and 2700 PFS  max to prevent oprod excessive wear or damage.

If you reload, use the Hornady 8th or so edition reloading manual, there is section there specific for service rifles, M1's and M14/M1A's

You can browse CMP Forum
http://forums.thecmp.org/

If your interested in replacing the barrel, I have newer (CBI) Criterion Barrel Inc with only 64 rounds through it.  I bought it new from CMP ; after the 64 rounds I decided to replace it with a .308win barrel.

Progressives are coming for your guns.
What are you going to do?

Well me, I do not have any guns, gave away or sold them 15 years ago.

Yup, no oil use grease.

Maybe a good idea to change the springs on her.  At lease the oprod and clip latch springs.
Orion 7 is one place to obtain springs.

Which make is it?  SA, or a Winnie?

It is a Springfield.  I'll have to look into the springs, thanks.

They make a ported gas plug for the Garand for shooting newer type ammo on and older Garand. Obviously you have to have a gunsmith certify that your used Garand is in good working condition first. Hope this helps, finding good Garand ammo is a challenge.
