Ruger Blackhawk single action cylinder won't rotate
« on: October 01, 2016, 05:35:28 AM »
Been slowly going thru my safe and have a ruger Blackhawk new model in 30 carbine. For some reason the cylinder will not rotate when the loading gate is open. Initiall thought that a pin or spring was missing but i Have the same gun in .357 and have taken both apart and compared and all parts apear to be present and assembled correctly.

Thoughts?

Is it an "old model"? Try putting the hammer on half cock and try it.

It's the "new model" and not the "3 screw"? The old 3 screw ya have to pull the hammer back to half cock other than that not sure what it would be.

Check that the hammer plunger and/or the hammer plunger cross pin aren't damaged or binding up. Happened on my Vaquero. Disassembled they looked ok and seemed to move but when I removed them the cross pin was beginning to sheer and bend. I replaced them both and it's worked fine ever since.

Try using the cross pin and spring from the 357.
