Mobil 1
« on: October 03, 2016, 10:38:35 AM »
Anybody use Mobil 1 in their diesel rig? I bought a Dura Max a couple months ago and it's time for an oil change. I noticed on the Mobil 1 container that it's for gasoline engines and it doesn't have the letter designation for diesel engines. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

No, but I use it on all of my guns. Best gun oil ever. Full Synthetic OW-20.   :)

I have very limited knowledge of Mobil 1. I run Amsoil 15w40 diesel and marine oil in my Duramax and am very pleased.  :twocents:

I use mobile one in all of my vehicles including my cummins. They have a diesel specific oil, normally i can find the 5 quart jugs at Walmart on sale for around $22.

Delo 400 15-40wt is possibly the best oil out there both for diesels and gas engines, sae 30wt can be found easily too. good amounts of zinc and other metals that the flat tappet camshafts in the old chevy small blocks require.  :twocents:

Unless you're going to run extended oil change intervals,or live in the arctic don't waste your money on synthetic.

The Duramax has proven to be very easy on oil.  Run an appropriate conventional oil, follow the OLM and the engine will last longer than you'll probably want to drive it.

Good info, thanks guys. I'm going to see if I can find diesel specific Mobile 1 with the CJ4 rating but will try to steer clear of WalMarche' (non union). If I can't find it then it'll be the Delo 400 I guess.

I run delvac 1300 in mine. It's also excellent oil. I wouldn't run synthetic in a duramax myself. Not worth it.

Costco carries delo 400. I run valvoline in my cummins though. Sign up for ads from Napa and you can get some good sales on oil, just have to watch for them. Napa also has a huge sale on filters too, watch the ads and you can get stocked up for the year.

Delo 400 for me as well, 450K+ miles on one of my Powerstrokes using it, no reason to change. :twocents:

That being said, my MDX gets Mobil 1 and so does my boat engine.

I run Delo 400 in my Freightliner w/ the Caterpillar. Good oil, won't go wrong with it. Have also had good results with Shell Rotella

I've run it in a duramax and two cummins. Great oil.

Mobil Delvac 1300 is great oil. Many manufacturers in the big rig indusrty use Delvac now.

I agree with Rick. Synthetic is overrated. Even with the extended interval theory, the oil is still getting dirty, especially in a diesel. I see no point in running Mobil 1 unless you're under extreme duty conditions with your truck.

Not entirely sure if there's any logic in this,  but I've always been told to wait until there's 10k miles on the engine before switching to synthetic.
