Colockum movement?
« on: October 04, 2016, 09:21:37 AM »
I have a muzzy Cow tag in here and have been over in the wenaha helping my brother in law with his muzzy bull tag. We backpacked in for 3 days and beat ourselves up so we hiked out to resupply and hit colockum for a couple days before we head back to try and fill his bull tag. Just curious if anyone has been up in the units and if anyone would be willing to share where they are seeing most of the elk right now? I have a spot I usually hit up tarpiscan crick but was thinking about staying closer to ellensburg for a quicker route to 90 when we head back to the Wenaha. I Appreciate anything anyone's willing to share.

First of all congrats on filling your tag. Was it a zoo or were things fairly calm?

I heard the archery season was a zoo, the elk seemed skittish.  We got far off the beaten path and got into them.  Some awesome bulls.  I thought there were quite a few muzz guys running around, more quads than ive seen up there before and I know they keep increasing the cow tags.

I actually thought there were less camps than last from Cooke Canyon to the ridge. I get a ways in there and don't see but the same 3 guys as years past. I can attest to the skittish elk, the ones that moved into my area after opening day were almost
Un-huntable.

*whoops, I am referring to the archery season this year.

Opening the colockum for otc archery cow was the worst move the fng has made. What an absolute disaster. Should have kept it permit cow hunts.

Couldn't agree more.

We are in the same boat. We've been all over the place and see nothing but cattle and quads!
Although we wish to fill a muzzy cow permit, I feel for those who 'wasted' points on Bull Permits!
The area is insane!
We may be eating Tag Soup after tomorrow.
Way to go WDFW!

I'd like to know one person who thinks they "wasted their points" on bull permits there. :dunno:  The previous posts are referring to archery hunting cows without a special permit draw in the area, and I agree with them.
