marshy grassy spot west side
« on: October 04, 2016, 03:57:56 PM »
I got my inflatable kayak and plan to use it in some hard to get spots. I've seen the WDFW access sites and the many blinds they provide. However, I'm also interested in alternative places  where I can take my kayak, cover with some grassy mesh and just lay there waiting with my decoys around me.

On a map, the Samish are looks OK. any other tips?

guess this would also be a good place to ask what's a good coverall for the kayak? I've seen grass mats, camo netting, thin mesh with camo pattern painted on, etc.

How vital is it that the kayak be completely covered? I have a white kayak. Is breaking up the colors all that's needed or will they need to not see any white at all?

My advice? Scout, scout, scout. Get out and look at areas before season starts and areas are covered with hunters wondering what the hell this dude is doing kayaking around in a white boat. Get an idea of what you will be kayaking through. Inflatable kayaks have little room for error when encountering sticks or other sharp objects, which are common in most areas youll be hunting. You have one weekend left before the madness starts! :)

Hard to get to and inflatable=death trap. Leave it at home. Even a small aluminun boat is a giant leap forward and can be found for $200.

I don't really have the time to scout right now unfortunately. I will see what I can do when the time comes.

My kayak isn't some POS inflatable 50 buck walmart special. It's a 1000D pvc kayak. Pretty high end stuff and rated for rapids so twigs shouldn't be too big of a problem. But also, I could just be right off shore resting in it.
