Vail Youth Hunt

My daughter drew it this year!   Hopefully she can be as successful as my son was last year!   Anyone else going to be out there this weekend?

Was out there with my son today on the 3000 road and fingers off of that.  Didn't see 1 deer.  Couldn't believe it.  Temp was good at low 50s and some light rain, but the darn wind didn't help.  Guard at 1000 road entrance said 11 youth hunters entered today.  Only 1 buck had been harvested prior to us leaving.  Don't know how the other 9 youth hunters did.

What are you looking for buck, doe or anything with hair?  If you are going in the main gate, there are better spots than down the 3000.

I didn't get to take her today.  Saw 4 does. That was it.  Tomorrow is spike or better!   I'll be able to take her tomorrow so I'll be able to make sure she spends more time hunting than driving around!!

You really need to be there at dawn. All the way in. The 2900 or 3000 roads are good but only early and late. During the day you will be lucky to see anything.

everyone has their own opinion and im not saying somone is wrong but i've been hunting that vail unit for more than 30 years and our best success is the last 3 hours of daylight.  we've always said that the deer in vail are lazy...have never had that much success in the morning.  if i only had a few hours to hunt that area i would concentrate on the last few hours of the day....

Kind of my point. I've been in there many days this season. All day, all over. the last few hours are very good if you can't make the dawn run. Mid day is almost a waste of time. Anyone who thinks there are spikes all over the place simply is feeding you BS.
