Hunting gmu 568
« on: October 06, 2016, 03:45:57 PM »
This is my first year hunting and I am looking for more information about gmu 568 (washougal unit). I am having trouble finding exactly where it's  legal to hunt. I've looked at plenty of maps but the colors don't make sense to me. From what I understand the red is dnr land which is huntable? I plan on hunting on larch by Jackson pass and jones creek. There are some logging operations going on up there and I don't know if I'm allowed to hunt up in those areas. The map shows that the area is dnr owned but can I still hunt on it if it's having logging operations. Has anybody else hunted the yacolt burn area on larch in the washougal unit before? Any tips? I'm using a shotgun but don't even want to go to unit 564 because the boundaries are so confusing and small I feel like I will mess up and shoot a doe on unit 568 not 564. This is my first time hunting so I am very worried about breaking the laws on accident so any tips would help, thanks.

Spend the 30$ and get the OnXmaps app for your phone. Most useful thing you'll ever use. I use the heck out of it, for multiple states too.

It clearly shows you unit boundaries and private/public boundaries.

Yacolt burn area gets hunted pretty hard. Lots of deer. But from what I recall, I think it went to a Weyerhaeuser permit area this year.

Good luck!

Is there any way to find out if you have to buy that permit? I can't seem to find it online

Here ya go. Looks like there's some available for each. 50$ walk in. 250$ to drive....

Honestly, I'd get that onXmaps app. There's plenty of national forest, DNR, and other private timber lands you can hunt. Start scouting some places out and see what ya like!

the Washougal unit is big. you can hunt on larch but you have to look out for the houses and the honor camp. the part of the burn just outside Yacolt I believe is still open, but like said before its hit very hard. Head up the gorge. there are some nice areas around the bridge of the gods. around carson is good also. head up the Washougal river road, hang a right at the falls. Like I said its a BIG unit.

good luck to you, and be safe out there.

You can hunt on BLM land if there's logging common since says if there's active there stay clear.  A lot of land up there is privet timber land.  and you'll need a permit  That area is not that great of a unit for shotgun as Battleground is.
That's my one shot.
