Need help editing blood out of photos.
« on: October 07, 2016, 10:18:38 AM »
Hey guys I was able to shoot a good bull with my bow this year but I left him overnight because we were iffy on the hit.  Even know we thought we heard him fall over a minute or two after the shot.  The acoustics with the canyon messed with our heads.  Any how the next morning a cougar and her kitten found him first and ate a hole in him at the exit hole of broad head.ive seen some guys do majic on some Mt goats and was hoping someone might be able to help me out.  I'll send photos if anyone can.

Someone good with photoshop could do this but why?  It's part of your story, go with it!  Editing it in this case would be a lie IMO.  Everytime you look at that edited photo in the future you'll know it isn't real.

Some food for thought though - there's people that actually advocate to edit out extra gruesome/or bloody photos before posting it on social media so the antis don't have fodder to freak out over... but this is an interesting question. Curious myself on the reasoning OP wants the edit?

Yeah, I am aware those that advocate this and I agree we should think about where we post our hunting photos.  I also believe that those who are opposed to hunting, those that would be "offended" by hunting photos like this aren't worth catering to.  Dumbing down the experience of hunting will only play into their hands.  We should be unashamed of what it means to be a hunter and blood and guts are part of it.  To gloss over the messy parts is to miss a vital piece of what it is to eat sustainable meat.  Butchering an animal is a messy business but when we hide the uncomfortable parts we are less connected to the animals and the land.  It should be messy, to keep us grounded and respectful of the animals.

I know I've lost it, let me know if you come across it

I can do it if you email the original image.

I don't think the OPs reason matters.  Sounds to me like the OP will face judgement from someone on either side of the issue.  Clean it up and get ripped by hunters for not being "real" or let it be and get ripped by antis for the bloody, cruel, crude blood and guts.  I already hear the judgement from the hunter side of things in this very post.

Do you ever check your appearance before someone takes your picture?  Why?  Just because the OP prefers it that way.  The rest is none of your business.

If you can't help him with his request, just ignore the post.  No need to badger him and angle for a reason to criticize, and yes, criticizing IS your angle here.

Actually I'm asking because I said I CAN, and there are numerous things that can be done to edit a photo depending on what he wants to do with the photo.. I've helped out many members with requests - usually print, so I keep that in mind and return a photo in the size they're wanting the print  :P

But you deliberately asked why for the edit in your last sentence. Not how he wanted edited.. :P :P :P :P

Yep! I said "Curious myself on the reasoning OP wants the edit?" ... the first sentence, in case you missed it, I defended reasons for people wanting to edit out the blood from photos  ..  Not sure what you think I said. After DaveMonti's post saying basically "don't ask unless you can help" and I said "I can help" (as in, I can help him so am I allowed to ask?). So what exactly are you pointing out? :)

Also gotta note since when are we not allowed to ask questions to an OP in a thread that's posted on here?  :chuckle:

I'm not directing it at you SG.

As soon as I saw the title of this post, I knew, without reading, that someone would reply and tell the OP that photo shopping would be a "lie" and "not real" and we need to "keep it real".  Clearly you indicated you could help and although you're curious at to why, you're not telling the OP they are wrong for wanting to do so.

If it needs intense cloning and stamping, you can job it out.  I've been using Retouchup.com. $5 for basic things like head swaps and $10 if the photo needs serious medical attention. They're US based and usually have a one day turnaround.

Why even take it there? A simple question was asked, that's all. If the guy doesn't want to answer, he won't.  Maybe he wants to hang it on the wall in his house and doesn't want the bloody photo there for all to see.  I feel like it's a question that doesn't need to be asked in the first place, and the follow up is also uncalled for.
