Wyoming research
« on: October 08, 2016, 07:45:35 PM »
Does anyone have any solid sources to research hunting units versus draw odds versus success rates? I have been looking on the state site as well as other outside websites but can't find a quality place that I feel like I can be confident in my analysis. My old man and I both have 4 points for deer, elk and antelope and are wanting to start applying for next season.

You're definitely in the game with four points. Did you find the spreadsheets on the WYGF website? They're pretty useful once you get the hang of them. G&F is usually nice enough to help you figure them out if you call.

Yes and the last few days I think I have went partially cross eyed looking at them and cross referencing maps, seasons etc. Too many dang tabs open on my iPad  :o

Do you have eastmans? That will give you a great look at draw odds over the last few years and success rates. Even though some of them are a little out of whack. Not all people report so some hunts have more success then it looks like on paper. Also gives you info on public land % and HMA'S.

I got eastmans for years but at last renewal I switched to western hunter and elk hunter. I considering getting huntin fool again because I liked their draw odd sections.

I agree. Wish I had a printer so I could just print stuff out instead of trying to flip between tabs. We are looking at either a deer, deer/lope combo or MAYBE an elk hunt though I kind of want to build a few more elk points so we can have a better chance at a muzzy hunt. Only thing is my dad isn't getting any younger and each year we wait just limits some of the terrain he can comfortably and effectively hunt

If you are willing to do a drop camp, have stock, or are willing to rent stock, you might want to check out hunting the Greys on a general tag.  Season opens around Sept 25th for rifle.  I had 2 buddies do it last year and they killed a couple of 6pt bulls.

I believe that non residents are not allowed to go into wilderness areas in Wyoming.
