Montana Prairie dogs/Sage rats
« on: February 11, 2009, 10:05:01 AM »
I've been going over to the Billings area for several years to kill Prairie Dogs wholesale. It's GREAT, but man is that ever a long drive from Spokane. Anybody know anywhere further West where a guy can get into good populations of Pdogs, or Sage Rats?

When I was in college, we would end the year by going to Wisdom, MT for a week.  It is in the Big Hole valley and is full of ground squirrels!  We would shoot thousands in three or four days and every landowner that we asked gave us permission.  The trip was not too bad, either.  I deer hunt out of Miles City every year, so I know about that cross-state drive!!

There's some colonies of pocket gophers where I hunt turkeys. We always try to hit them with our pistols but never seem to be able to. Unfortunately there arent enough to make it a worthwhile trip. I see the little guys scurry around every time I'm up there. Turkey shot rolls them nicley but I think a HP .224 pill would be funner.
